A Quadruple Crown (so to speak) tinged with sadness.

These last few days have proved to be some of the most successful in the clubs history, though punctuated with the sad news of the passing of two club members.

The U8's entered two sides in the annual Chelmsford Mini Festival -both sides reached the final - which was shared!

The U15’s secured the league and cup double (for second year in a row) by overcoming Thurrock 22-11 in their final league match on Sunday morning – this following their Essex Cup success over the same opposition on Wednesday last.

The U16’s were worthy winners of the keenly contested Essex Cup final 17-5 versus long standing local rivals Westcliff.

This was followed by the U17’s nail-biting victory over Upminster, a team they have jousted with since U7’s, by 16 points to 12.

Prior to both finals, superbly hosted by Southend RFC, a minutes silence was held in the memory of two club stalwarts.

The club was informed of the recent passing of Bill Collins, a member and captain of the club in the early 60’s

This was sadly followed by the news on Saturday morning that Don Eady, one of the longest serving members of the club, had also passed away. Don was the driving force behind the building of the Tennyson room and the current clubhouse bar, and was actively engaged in the new clubhouse planning committee.

The clubs wishes to send its condolences, on behalf of all players, members and supporters, to the families of both gentleman.

The thriving Mini and Youth Sections, the recent successes and the minutes silence are fitting tributes to both.

Kind Regards

Peter Watson, on behalf of BRFC ExCo.
