And thanks from the man himself!

Alex Gibson a former club senior strength and conditioning coach/ 1st team player and current U7’s coach who was recently diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease completed his challenge last weekend.

It consisted of a 215mile cycle ride on his recumbent bike in the Outer Hebrides within 50 hours, crossing 10 islands in the archipelago.

Despite the official challenge being only 185miles (Alex decided to add on a few extra!).

The challenge was chosen as Alex being a keen athlete wanted something physical which could be adapted to his condition.

The challenge was packed with entertainment, with missing cyclists (despite only one cycle route and only 2 or 3 junctions in the whole of the challenge!), people almost being blown over cliffs with strong winds, whiskey distillery tours, not to mention races for ferry crossings for most of the team and potential cancellations of ferries due to adverse weather conditions.

Copious amounts of alcohol were consumed by many of his ten man team. Danny his younger brother and former 1st team player actually swore by the 10 pints and lack of sleep the previous night to see him through!!

However the real joy was the beautiful scenery and the occasional sightings of dolphins, golden eagles and puffins.

Not to mention the hospitality and generosity of the locals.

Team Alex have currently raised over £26,500 towards the MND Association.

Alex mentioned ‘It is overwhelming the generosity that people have shown throughout the fund raising exercise and a big thanks goes out from the bottom of my heart’.
