During the summer month’s work will continue on improving the pitches at the club, with reseeding being undertaken, cost approximately £3,000, which has been pretty much paid for out of the profit made at the Dinner dance recently held – thanks to all those who attended!!
New floodlights are also being installed on pitch 2 at a cost of £33,000, funds generated by successful grant applications to Sport England and the Rugby Football Union.
Since we took over control of the pitches some 3 years ago our development programme has moved on leaps and bounds, but the cost of maintaining the pitches has also increased. In the bad old days when we hired the pitches from the council, the annual bill was in the region of £9,000, now that they are our responsibility, the cost is approximately £13,500, and likely to increase by at least another £1,000 next year when we factor in the cost of annually servicing the new floodlights. One of the many, many reasons that it is vitally important for the wellbeing of our club that we all pay our annual subscriptions promptly!!!

Anyway enough preaching, have a good summer

John Smeaton

President
