– please do take time to read the below.

Dear all,

We hope that you are enjoying the summer break and the good weather.

The club continues to be busy off the field over the summer, and below are a number of key updates and requests for our ever growing membership:

Presidents Lunches and key World Cup matches

The website will shortly be updated to reflect dates of our upcoming Presidents Lunches plus date and times when club will be open for major RWC 2015 matches

Pitch 2 update

We are due to have the pitch handed back to club by end of August, ready for the start of the new season. Details to follow regards a formal opening match so watch this space.
Still some work to be done so the pitch we will remain out of bounds until fences finally come down – just praying for some much needed rain – sorry!

100 Club

Please do take a look at the enclosed messages from Alan Hudson, 100 Club organiser and club photographer. The 100 Club is a great way of supporting rugby at all levels across BRFC, and provides a chance to win monthly cash prizes. Please sign up to support if you can.

VAT issue

As some of you may be aware the club is working closely with HMRC to finalise terms of a VAT settlement that arose due to unforeseen liabilities resulting from recent Grant awards in the last couple of years. We are in contact with HMRC, The RFU and Sport England and are working to close out as soon as possible.

Club Memberships

The ExCo is pleased to advise that membership fees will stay at the same level as last season. We would though politely ask that all members, not currently on monthly direct debit, look to re-new their memberships online asap. We will be sending out prompts to pay later next month, and again would ask for you close and prompt attention to re-new online.

Again we would like to encourage as many members as possible to consent to club claiming Gift Aid on the donated portion of your membership, as this really helps the clubs funding – most grateful to those that already give their consent.

Situations Vacant

The club is well served by many willing volunteers but we do have a number of vacancies that we’d like to fill:

RWC 2015 Events and Promotions – club would like to advertise locally to raise our profile given the upcoming Rugby World Cup. We seek a volunteer(s) to help coordinate advertising locally and perhaps organise some world cup events around key matches?

Youth Fixture Secretary – club seeks a volunteer to coordinate the clubs youth fixtures next season. They have all been arranged but require an hour or so a week to confirm and coordinate given changes, weather etc. A key role for someone to help ensure the smooth running of fixtures at the club. Many thanks to Aaron Barbeau, the outgoing Youth Fixture Sec

Volunteer Coordinator – there are many roles and requirements that come up throughout the year – would be great if we could enlist support of an individual to coordinate these going forward?

RFU Grand Draw coordinator – club seeks a willing volunteer to coordinate the distribution, sale and collection of RFU Grand Draw Tickets later this year/early next. Club gets to keep 90 pence of every GBP 1.00 ticket sold – so a great way to raise much needed funding by selling to families, friends and colleagues over a 3 to 4 month period - so plenty time to sell a book each!

If you are interested in any of the above roles, or are able to offer any time/expertise to the club in any capacity please do get in touch via exco@brentwoodrugbyclub.com or to any the of ExCo members as listed on the website.

New Appointments

The ExCo are delighted to announce the following:

We welcome Derek and Sylvie Edwards as the new Bar Management team effective yesterday! We are sure you’ll receive a warm South African Welcome from them both.

We also extend our gratitude to both Wendy and Malcolm O’Dell for all their efforts over the last 3+ years and wish them well in the future – they won’t be strangers!

Andre Beukes has taken on the role of Commercial manager for the club, actively seeking sponsorship/partnership opportunities with local firms/individuals – so am sure he’ll appreciate any leads/introductions you can provide.

James “Ex-Captain VP Metcalfe has joined the ExCo and Anthony “Tank” Sherwood will manage and Captain the 2nd XV side. We very much hope that both appointments will help strengthen the transition from Youth to Senior Rugby and build on the success we had last season with some 20+ U18 and U17 players playing senior adult rugby for the 1’s 2’s and 3’s

Finally on a personal note am delighted to be handing over the financial reins to Peter McCarthy, the clubs new Honorary Treasurer. Peter and I will work together on a handover that we hope will be complete by September, as we seek to resolve VAT discussions and formalise appointment of a new club bookkeeper.

New Clubhouse

Under the guidance of Chairman Richard King the club house working groups continue to move forward. Do expect plenty of news and updates as the season progresses.

Many thanks for your continued support and we look forward to welcoming you back to the club in early September, if not before!

With Kind Regards
