U17's Win Essex Cup
Essex U17's Cup goes to Brentwood after 41-5 win over Eton Manor
After being together as a team for some years, our U17's found themselves with a shot at winning the Essex Cup.
We travelled to Romford and Gidea Park to play Eton Manor, who we knew would provide us with a competitive match.
The first 15 or so minutes found both sides tackling and defending well, and we were finding it difficult to penetrate the Eton Manor defence. We were competing extremely well in the scrum, despite the Manor front row looking significantly bigger and stronger than our own.
After 20 mins, the deadlock was broken when Henry Batty made a break and crossed the line. Unfortunately, we were unable to convert. Within 7 mins, Manor struck back, but also failed to convert.
Brentwood were starting to warm up though and get used to Manor's game plan. Our backs were now showing what they could do, and although there were one or two handling issues. we were starting to dominate, with the fitness of our lads proving vital.
Further tries in the first half from
Harry Jowers after 35 (10-5). Tom Richards after 37 (15-5) and Conversion by Sam White (17-5) brought the first half to a close.
In the Second after 50 mins. Eamon Tiernan. Conversion by Sam White. 24-5. 53 mins Eamon Tiernan. Conversion Sam White 31-5. Brody Chapman at 70. 36-5. Charlie Gooding at 79
Final Score 41-5.
Well done to all the try scorers and our kicker, but to all the lads on a great team performance which has finally brought some much deserved silverware for them back to the club.
Thanks also to Grant and Steve for believing in and encouraging the lads. It wouldn't have happened without you!!
