U17's Celebrate Double!

Brentwood U17's clinch the Cup and League Double after 34-5 win over Westcliff

With the final League match of the season, and with just Westcliff standing in our way, our U17's travelled to Westcliff for what was effectively a Final to decide the 2017/18 League winners.
Westcliff always present us with strong opposition. They have a strong and generally well drilled side. It also appeared they had a number of new players we had not faced previously, so we weren't quite sure exactly what we might find.
Brentwood started down the slope. The first 8-9 minutes saw both sides contesting well, but in the 10th, Sam White managed to break away as he does so well on the wing and was over the line. A few minutes later. Daniel Game was over the line for our 2nd, which, although contested by Westcliff as being in touch, was confirmed as being in by the linesman, and then given by the Ref.. Neither were converted, with a strongish breeze playing it's part. Score 10-0.
In the 25th, Tom Walker made a blistering run from about halfway, to score under the posts. This time, we converted, bringing the score to 17-0.
Westcliff had been pressing, and were rewarded with a try after 30, but didn't convert. Half time score 17-5.
Following the restart, Sam White was over the line again within 8 minutes, to bring it to 22-5. With 53 mins on the clock, Tom Walker was on the assault again, after chipping, kicking, and chasing down which he gathered up to touch down for a 27-5 lead. Try not converted.
Just after the 60th minute, Dan Pembroke was over to make it 32-5, and Sam White converted for what was the final try of the match. Brentwood's fitness proved crucial. and saw them playing out the remaining 20 mins pressing forward continually in an attempt to increase the scoreline.
Westcliff, to their credit, battled on well and didn't let their heads go down, but on the day, we proved to be better organised in our back line, faster on the wings and tactically better in our play, being justly rewarded with the win to seal the Cup and League Double.
Well done to both teams in playing the match in the spirit of Rugby.
Good luck to both at Under 18 level next season.

It’s our final Kids First Champion for the season! David ‘Flats’ Flatman and two special guests surprise Ellingham & Ringwood RFC.
