Another great Golden Boot Tournament

Sunday 11th October saw Brentwood Rugby Club host the 47th running of it's annual invitational under 16 competion for the Andy Joselyn Memorial Trophy - The Golden Boot.

A number of late withdrawals forced an amended competition format with sides competing in two pools.

One pool featured the hosts Brentwood who claimed top spot after wins against Mavericks and Colchester A. With the contest between Colchester and Mavericks ending in a draw Colchester took second place, and the other semi final berth available, by virtue of their better result in defeat by Brentwood.

The second pool featured a scratch Brentwood Barbarians team who quickly gelled to finish first and unbeaten to also progress to the Golden Boot semi-final. Second place was taken by Suffolk club Woodbridge. The other sides in the pool, Chelmsford and Colchester B, moved into a round robin competition for the Shield with local rivals Mavericks emerging as winners with 33-0 and 47-0 victories respectively.

In the Golden Boot semi finals Brentwood A proved too strong for Woodbridge running out comfortable winners 38 - 0. The ever improving Barbarians continued to surprise beating Colchester A 12 - 7 to move into the final. Encouraged by strong support from a crowd getting behind the underdog, the Barbarians put up a spirited performance but the strength of the Brentwood team, and particularly their back line, was to prove too much for the Barbarians with Brentwood taking the Golden Boot Trophy with a 24 - 5 win.

The Brentwood victory extends the hosts winning sequence to a fourth successive year.
