On a brilliant sunny Sunday Brentwood RFC hosted this annual competition for Under 16 teams

On a brilliant sunny Sunday Brentwood RFC hosted this annual competition for Under 16 teams. We had 14 clubs from Essex, Kent, Buckinghamshire and Surrey competing with our 2 teams.

This was a strong tournament with Essex champions Westcliff and Cup Winners Chelmsford in attendance. Spectators enjoyed an excellent day of competition, played in the best spirit of the game with tries being scored in abundance on all four pitches,

Brentwood B made up of U16/U15 players did brilliantly to finish third in a tough group. Having never played together before they drew 2 matches and lost just 1 against a strong Amersham side. They ran into a good Dorking side in the final stage to end their competition. A big thanks to all those U15 boys who played, parents and coaches who supported, and boys who volunteered as pitch marshals.

The A team managed to win their group beating Romford 14-0, Dorking 28-0 and in the group decider Colchester 10-7.

A very good Amersham side were next up in the semi final. Amersham scored first for a 7-0 lead at half time. However a determined Brentwood, kicking down the slope responded with great heart to score 10 unanswered points and grab a spot in the final.

Sevenoaks, who knocked out Westcliff and Chelmsford and had only conceded one try all day were our final opponents.
An extremely committed, even and entertaining match saw some brilliant rugby being played by both sides but with no score. Brentwood were awarded a penalty with the last play of the game and a silent crowd waited as the penalty was coolly dispatched and the trophy secured with the narrowest 3-0 victory.

This is the second consecutive year Brentwood U 16s have won the coveted trophy.

Saracens player, Max Crumpton and Mrs Joselyn were on hand to present the trophies and round off a thoroughly enjoyable day.

The boys drew great heart from the fantastic support from the breadth of the club from 1st Team players to minis.

Thanks are due to so many parents, siblings, and members of Brentwood U16 and the club as a whole. It shows how strong this club can be when all pull in the same direction.

Well done all those in the U16 SQUAD you can be rightly proud of this achievement.
