Positive performance and result

Doing the basics pays dividends
Braintree kicked off and we initially looked to compete, but gifting early possession and after a number of phases, a converted score, 7-0 down.
The boys started to build simple phases of play and put pressure on Braintree and were rewarded with a well taken try by Jack D after some good inter-play between forwards and backs.
We now began to dominate the breakdowns and possession and James B scooted over for a try, which was converted by Luke.
The forwards continued to lay great foundations which were exploited by the backs and another try by James B.
Hard yards continued to be gained, with Sean, Will B and Baron leading by example, and this enabled another try, this time after some good backs work, where Michael G went in at the corner.
For a brief period Brentwood couldn’t maintain their high work rate and concentration and allowed Braintree to escape their own 22 and score to bring their tally to 12 points.
Braintree continued to be resilient, and Luke Williams, Obinna and Josh R held firm in defence, whilst Toby S and Sid remained strong in the tight.
Good line speed in the backs and decent first up tackling pressured Braintree in their own 22, and Thomas sniped and was rewarded with a try.
With minutes to go to HT Brentwood once again put a number of strong phases together and Josh O broke clear with 30 metres to go and sprinted in to score under the posts, duly converted by Luke.
After HT Brentwood allowed Braintree to build some momentum and they duly scored 2 unanswered tries to put the pressure onto Brentwood.
Brentwood’s response was to work hard on the basics, compete more strongly at the breakdown and put more pressure on the Braintree back line.
We were rewarded with 3 further tries from Obinna (2) and Michael with 1 Luke conversion.
Braintree grabbed a late consolation try deep into stoppage time, but they couldn’t dent a very good performance from the boys.
