8 try blitz shatter Chingford.........

A powerful and dynamic display by Brentwood demolished Chingford 57-10 on Saturday afternoon at King Georges.

Director of Rugby Steve Killington was able to select from a full squad for this local derby. Brentwood playing downhill in the first half were immediately put under pressure from a lively Chingford team who had lost only one of their opening 5 games. Chingford retained the ball well and set up a number of try scoring opportunities but valiant defence kept them out from crossing the Brentwood line. The pressure which Chingford were exerting on the Brentwood line finally told when the Chingford scrumhalf cut through to score the opening score to give Chingford a deserved 5-0 lead.

However that was the last opportunity Chingford had as the score stung Brentwood into life. The forwards drove into the Chingford half and quickly recycled ball saw centre Henry Bird cut through to release Declan Gillett to score wide out the try was converted to give Brentwood a 7-5 lead. An injured Tom Simpson was replaced by Adam Thomas who made and immediate impact by bursting through some poor Chingford tackling to set Josh Stannard free who set Declan Gillett with the simplest of tries to extend the lead further to 12-5. Chingford gave a way a simple penalty for Henry Bird to score to give Brentwood a 15 -5 lead.

The Brentwood forwards were giving Chingford a torrid time and excellent work by Rob Hobbs and Captain Josh Woodcock created space for the fleet footed Henry Galligan to launch another attack on the Chingford line excellent support play by Billy Aldous and James Metcalfe created another try for Brentwood as Aaron Stanier ran in to score the conversion was successful to give Brentwood a 22-5 lead at half time.

The Brentwood coaching team although pleased with the first half effort demanded more precision and accuracy in the second half. An injured Billy Aldous was replaced by Jamie Tuvai. Clever rotation of the front row saw Joel Bevans-Royston, Kieran Skurr and Lewis Prately used effectively to drive into the heart of the Chingford defence. Quick ball from the Brentwood forwards saw Aaron Stanier slip under the posts to open the second half, Henry Bird added the additional conversion to extend the lead to 29-5 and give Brentwood another try scoring bonus point.

With Brentwood dominating every area of play it allowed the half backs of Henry Galligan and Henry Bird to control the game. Excellent support work from Terry Snooks and James Metcalfe allowed Declan Gillett to waltz over for his hat trick, Henry Bird converted to give Brentwood a 36 -5 lead. Brentwood were not finished yet as they ran in 2 further ties from scrum half Henry Galligan and a fourth from Declan Gillett who was enjoying his afternoon. The Chingford side never gave up and were rewarded with a consolation try to bring the score back to 50 -10

The final play of the game saw a superb score from scrum half Henry Galligan after excellent work from the dynamic Nick Binet, Henry Bird converted to give the final score of 57 -10. In a match with so many individual performances the Chigwell Construction Man of the Match was given to Henry Galligan for an outstanding performance at scrum half.

Director of Rugby Steve Killington and coaching team of John Sproul and Andre Buekes in their post-match comments played tribute to the whole squad for their commitment and intensity throughout the game. ‘the squad needs to continue to focus on doing the basics right with accuracy and speed then the scores will come.’
