Brentwood signed off from 2017 with a powerful performance away to South Woodham Ferrers on Saturday. They scored 14 tries in total in a one sided match played in perfect conditions with Chay Pollinger and Charlie Wilkinson each bagging a hattrick, Brentwood looked dangerous every time they went forward and scored regularly throughout the match.
Woodham defended well for the opening quarter and forced some errors from the visitors but the home side’s defences were breached on 10 minutes with an unconverted try, this was followed by Josh Stannard crossing and Bradley Burr converting. With Woodham struggling to cope with the strength and intensity of the away side’s forward pack, space was opened up across the narrow pitch regularly. At halftime Brentwood had scored 5 tries and led 33 - 0
Brentwood continued to score at will in the second half, 9 tries were scored in a completely one sided affair. The score would have been even more impressive had Brentwood not missed 9 conversions. Something that needs to be addressed next year when pushing for the top of the league. With Chingford’s narrow win against Eton Manor the lead is now just 4 points and Brentwood have the superior points for difference over Chingford.
All to play for in 2018.
The Davlav Man of the Match went to Matt Whaley, strong all game in both defence and attack. Brentwood entertain Diss first up on 6th January and will try to extend their 11 game unbeaten run.
