Brentwood fail to continue winning run against Chingford

Brentwood fell to a disappointing home defeat to Chingford on Saturday and fell into the bottom 3 in the league for the first time this season. Brentwood never really got going, the visitors adapted to the conditions well with their forward orientated game to take the spoils from a game played in freezing condition.

Brentwood showed some promise and looked unperturbed by the dismal conditions and they took an early lead with a Burr penalty from a dominant scrum in front of the posts. Chingford hit back with some powerful forward play, the backs were onlookers as visitors moved up the pitch and scored a converted try. Dan Suttle could warm himself up on the sidelines when the referee showed him a yellow card for killing an attack. The game followed a similar pattern for pretty much the whole half, intelligent kicking from Chingford kept Brentwood pegged back in their own third. Burr picked up another 3 points late in the half to keep Brentwood in the game.

Half time Brentwood 6 – 10 Chingford

Nothing new in the second half, handling errors from both teams broke the game up but again Chingford coped with the conditions far better and their game plan worked perfectly in the slippery conditions. Brentwood defended ferociously and the game was played in the middle third for most of the 2nd half. Chingford moved further ahead with another try and the game looked out of the home side’s reach, that proved to be the case as the vistiors held out for a deserved win.

Full time Brentwood 6 – 18 Chingford

Brentwood need to put this performance behind them and regroup in the new year, they clearly have the talent in the squad but injuries to key positions have meant that they have not fielded a settled side for the past 8 games. There’s a strong team spirit in the group and will be confident of moving away from the danger zone after Christmas.
