Brentwood U7s who traveled to Southend turned up with gritted determination to do well for the whole age group. They didn’t disappoint.
The day started wet, but nowhere near as bad as last week, but soon brightened up. All the minis teams looked good with their shelters and BRFC flags. Make sure you check out the pictures.

Team 1: Angus Wright, Fred Palmer, Oisin Coughlan, Toby Earl & Tom Lyons.
Team 2: Austin Branton, Ben Howard, Luca Donaldson, Robert Thomas, Teddy Hewitt and Theo Robinson.

Both team 1 and 2 got a bye in their first games, when sadly Romford didn’t turn up. This gave us a little time to drill the boys or more truthfully for them to run around like lunatics.

The next round saw us playing against well-disciplined Braintree teams.
Team 1 won their game 9-4 with tries from Angus, Tom, and Toby.
Team 2 had to settle for a very tight draw 7-7. Try scorers were Rob, Luca, Ted and Theo.

The final group stage saw both teams play Westcliff. Westcliff put on a spirited performance but, Brentwood had the stronger teams on the day.
Team 1 won 2-12 with tries from Tom, Fred, Angus, Toby and Oisin.
Team 2 won 5-9 with tries from Rob, Luca, Austin, Ben, Ted, Theo.

These group game results meant both teams were through to the finals.

Team 2 started their Cup Final against Blackheath just a couple of minutes ahead of the Team 1 final.
Blackheath started the game and caught Brentwood napping to score a very easy try. This focused Brentwood and for much of the game it was back and forth with both teams scoring and then the other responding with their own score.
It was fast, clean, well spirited play, with both teams rushing back to the halfway line after a score. There wasn’t much in it but the final score saw Brentwood win 6-10 with some cracking tries from Ted, Austin, Robert, Theo and Luca.

The Team 1 Cup Final against Sevenoaks was a tight affair with tries flying in at both ends. Fred, Angus Tom and Toby all weighed in with some great tries and Oissin gave a great defensive display with some superb tagging. Brentwood triumphed 10-9 and the boys were delighted with the outcome (and their medals and trophy!) Fantastic team display, well done chaps!

Medals and trophies were handed out by some guy called Tom Varndell in a black and yellow rugby shirt (nice touch).
